When the doors opened at the Kimel Family Education Centre in September 2007, students were introduced to an exciting addition to an already full compliment of General Studies opportunities. On the southeast corner of the second floor sits the impressive 1600 square foot Meyer/Finkelstein Music Studio.
TanenbaumCHAT would never be the same. The development of the music programme has been one of the major delights of our school. The rapid progress of our young musicians, under the guidance of Janice Rose & Robin Cornell has been inspirational. In fact, when the band made its debut performance at the Academic Awards Celebration that November in 2007, they had been back to school for less than 8 weeks, and nearly 90% of the TanenbaumCHAT band members had never before touched an instrument.
Over the last three years the music programme has reached a new level of commitment and performance. And although most of our music graduates will not go on to pursue music professionally, the focus of the department has been to provide musical experiences to those students who may never have the opportunity again. As our students graduate and go on to pursue a variety of professional studies and careers, the school is pleased that with the introduction of this programme, students can take full advantage of this time in their lives when they too can be musicians!

TanenbaumCHAT is excited that the sound of music will finally be travelling south. Summer construction at the Wallenberg Campus will deliver a brand new music studio this September, designed & equipped in an identical fashion to its northern counterpart. As at Kimel, the Wallenberg Campus music studio will feature state of the art Wenger products designed to deliver the highest levels of acoustic excellence. Three sound isolating practice rooms equipped with VAE Technology® will offer realistic acoustical simulations, creating the sensation of being enveloped by the sound and enabling our student musicians to hear themselves in nine virtual acoustical environments, duplicating a broad range of performance venues – from a large recital hall to a small auditorium.
