    Tuition Fees:
Tuition Fees are set by our Board of Directors. Tuition Fees are $21,100 for the 2010-11 School year. Part of this full fee qualifies for a charitable donation receipt.

Deposit, Application Fee and Late Application Fee:
On application, a Tuition Deposit of $500 is required. There is a non-refundable Application Fee of $150, and an additional $200 Fee for Late Applications received after the due date.

    Tuition Assistance:
The Tuition Assistance Programme, primarily funded by the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, is completely confidential. When determining fair subsidies, we take into account a family’s total financial profile, and, where applicable, tuition assistance history fr om other Jewish day schools. Wh ere more than one Jewish school is involved, a shared “Family Tuition Fee” is determined. Every parent automatically receives Tuition Assistance forms. Families are expected to give an appropriate priority to Tuition in their family budgeting. Please do not allow financial considerations to prevent you from applying to the school.

    Other Costs:
Mandatory charges for materials and activities that are part of curriculum may total up to $500 (in Grade 9). Textbooks – new or used – typically cost $300-$700 annually. Charges payable at Book Sale may normally be spread over several payments. Other charges depend on course and extracurricular choices. The cost of the busing programme at the Kimel Centre is approximately $800 per year. Families may be eligible for assistance for many of these costs. No student should be prevented from participating in any school activity for financial reasons.

    Is there a school uniform?

We do not have a school uniform but we do have a Dress Code. Students are required to dress respectably, neatly and modestly, in a way that is appropriate to a school. Boys must wear a kippa (or other appropriate and approved head-covering) at all times. Boys and girls must have shoulders, midriffs and knees covered. The school Dress Code is detailed in the School Handbook.

Can I decide which Campus my child will attend?

TanenbaumCHAT is one School, and both Campuses operate with the same philosophy, ethos and standards. The school reserves the right to determine which Campus a student will attend. Placement is normally determined by your domicile. Students living south of Steeles Avenue will attend the Wallenberg Campus. Students living north of Steeles Avenue will attend the Kimel Centre. For September 2010, Special Education will be offered at the Wallenberg Campus only.

What is the purpose of the interview?

The interview is our opportunity to meet your child, to get to know them (strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes) and for you to ask any questions that pertain to your child. It is also the time when we explain the course curriculum for Grade 9, and it is an opportunity for a first, personal, point of contact.

Interviews take place during the school day. At least one parent must attend the interview together with the student, and if possible, both.

    What are Placement Tests?

All students who apply to TanenbaumCHAT must take Placement Tests, in Hebrew, English, Math and, where applicable, French. These are specifically designed for TanenbaumCHAT. There is a special Hebrew Placement Test for New Stream applicants, administered at the intake interview. As the name suggests, we use the results to place each student in their appropriate streams of study. Because Placement Tests are diagnostic, we do not disclose the results. We can only process applications if we have a Placement Test result on file.

Placement Tests, together with consideration of student records and other data, enable us to ensure that:

    • TanenbaumCHAT has an appropriate course to offer
    • every student is placed in a balanced class, enabling us to provide the best teaching

No preparation is needed. Make sure you bring pencils (for the Math test) and a pen for the other tests. All boys are asked to wear a kippa.

Please re-click Admissions and refer to Timetable and Checklist to be advised of the date options for writing the Placement Tests.

Are all students accepted to TanenbaumCHAT?

Our goal is to make the school accessible to the maximum number of students. However, we have to be sure that the school has a programme at which the student will have a reasonable chance of success, and that they are motivated and prepared to attend the school.
