GRADE 12 MOCK TRIAL TEAM - WINNING STREAK CONTINUES
On Friday, March 26, 2010, the TCK Mock Trial Team competed in the regional Ontario Bar Association Competition.  The OBA competition is part of a national event to celebrate Law Day, which marks the annual anniversary of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Law Day is aimed at educating the public about the importance of law in a democratic society, and the way in which our judicial system works.  Teams fr om across the province take part in this exciting event. Members of each team participate in a simulated criminal trial, in which the roles of Crown attorneys, Defence lawyers, the accused, and other witnesses are all played by students.  Teams must prepare the case for both the Crown and the Defence, as the side they will play for each trial is decided a few minutes prior to trial by a coin toss.  Strict time lim its are enforced for each part of the trial, which increase the challenge presented to students in their roles as advocates.

At the regional competition, the TCK team won its first two trials, and completed the morning with the highest score for all participating teams in the region.  This won them a bye into the finals for the region.  During the regional finals, the TCK team was once again outstanding in their performance!  Despite having several time faults deducted from their score, the TCK team was victorious against Richmond Hill Secondary School, winning the most points and bringing home another first place victory - the Central East Regional Division Championship!  The TCK team also won the York Region Judge's Cup competition in early March, 2010.

The TCK team now moves on to the Provincial quarter-final rounds, which will take place during Law Week, on Wednesday, April 14, 2010. The semifinal round will be held at the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, on the morning of Thursday, April 15, 2010. In the afternoon, the two winning teams go head to head for the Provincial championship. Dressed in the traditional gowns of the profession, the students will present their respective cases before a panel of judges from the Ontario Court Justice and the Superior Court of Justice.   Trophies and prizes will be awarded to winners and runners up as well as to their respective schools at the Law Day Closing & Awards.

We wish the TCK team continued success in the next rounds of competition!

Mazel Tov to the TCK Boys' Hockey Team, winners of the YRAA Senior Boys Tier 2 Ice Hockey Championship 2009-2010! Second year in a row!

The TCK Boys' Hockey Team played St. Robert in the best of 3 YRAA finals. Game 1 was dominated by the Cougars with an outstanding performance by goaltender Jordan Rostowsky. Our defensive core stepped up and protected our zone extremely well. Our offensive players bombarded the net with shots and gained excellent possession in the offensive zone throughout the game. Goals were scored by Aaron Hummel, Harry Lewis, Adam Litwin, and David Garbuz (2) as the Cougars won 5-1. Game 2 was a much closer game as St. Robert was facing elimination and the Cougars were gearing up for a repeat as champions. Once again, Jordan Rostowsky played a strong game as the Cougars ralied behind him scoring four goals and winning the championship game 4-1, claiming the YRAA championship for the second straight year. Goals were scored by Andrew Shore, David Garbuz (2), and Adam Litwin. The Boys' Hockey Team would like to thank all students, teachers and administrators for all their support throughout the season. A very special thanks to the teachers for their flexibility and understanding in helping our team be able to compete on a regular basis ultimately allowing us to bring home another banner.

Model UN

Members of the Grade 10 & 11 Model United Nations team participated earlier this week in the Jewish-Canadian Youth Model United Nations in Montreal.  Students debated, negotiated, and represented the views of their assigned countries on a variety of international issues including the proliferation of nuclear weapons, violence targeting women, access to water resources, child soldiers, and terrorist recruitment.  The team worked hard in preparation for the conference and passionately articulated their positions over the three-day event.  Alex Maged won a "Best Delegate" award and three students received honourable mentions for their performance - Marky Freeman, Ariela Gutfrajnd, and Rachel Schlosser.  All students represented our school withdistinction.  Well done team!
