About New Stream

Since the mid-90s, our New Stream program has welcomed students from a wide range of educational backgrounds—many of whom are completely new to Jewish learning.

The program is open to students from public schools and secular independent schools, along with those who have been out of the Jewish day school system since the end of Grade 5.

This tailor-made program encompasses Jewish Studies only and makes up over a quarter of our student cohort. This means that New Stream students discover and engage in Jewish learning together, and are fully integrated with the rest of their cohort for General Studies classes and extracurricular opportunities.

Just like all students at TanenbaumCHAT, New Stream students take four Jewish Studies subjects each year. With the exception of Ivrit (Hebrew language), all of these courses are taught in English. By the time they reach Grade 12, New Stream students are equipped to become mainstreamed into the full range of Jewish Studies electives.

Please note that entry into New Stream is in Grade 9 and applications for Grade 10 are considered on a case-by-case basis.

New Stream Information Session & Parent Open House

The New Stream Parent Open House will take place on Tuesday, October 20 at 7:15 PM. Please complete registration for the Parent Open House on the Admissions Portal.

How to apply

Online Applications are now open for the 2027-2028 school year.

Step 1: Submit an Application

Applications for new student entry in September 2027 are now open.

To begin the application process, you must first create an account through the Admissions Portal with a unique username and password. The login information will be important to have throughout the admissions process.

Once created, candidates will complete an “Application Checklist” which contains 10 mandatory categories, plus Parent Open House/Student Tour registrations. An application will only be considered “submitted” once the mandatory checklist items are complete.

Applications must be completed by the December 1 deadline.

A fee of $1,100 must accompany each application ($250 non-refundable, $850 tuition deposit).

Already started your application or are a current TanenbaumCHAT family? Log in to the Admissions Portal to complete your application.

Step 2: Write Placement Tests

Placement tests are a required part of the application process. Each future TanenbaumCHAT student will write tests in English, Math, and Hebrew. Students entering the New Stream program are not required to write the Hebrew test. We use the tests to help us determine class placement and abilities.

You can choose between two placement test dates when completing the application: Sunday, November 8, 2026 or Sunday, December 6, 2026.

We must be in receipt of a completed application prior to writing placement tests.

Step 3: Interview

Once your application is reviewed and all necessary documents have been provided, we will get in touch to schedule an interview. The student and at least one parent or guardian must attend. No preparation is required.

Interviews take place between October and February.

Step 4: Decision

Offers of Acceptance will be sent on Friday, February 26, 2027.

An additional $1,000 confirmation deposit, which will be credited towards tuition, must accompany the acceptance of the offer.
