Dear Members of the TanenbaumCHAT Community,

We are writing to share an important update regarding our school’s leadership. After many years of dedicated service to TanenbaumCHAT, Dr. Jonathan Levy, our Head of School, has informed us that he will be stepping down at the end of this school year to pursue a new opportunity in the United States.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Levy for his principled leadership, commitment to excellence, and steadfast dedication to Jewish education. Under his guidance, TanenbaumCHAT has thrived as Toronto’s leading Jewish high school, fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and academically rigorous environment that reflects our shared values.

As this news is quite recent, the Board is now in the early stages of developing a comprehensive leadership plan for the coming school year. We are approaching this work thoughtfully and collaboratively, and we will keep the community informed as details are finalized.

In the meantime, we want to reaffirm our strong confidence in Renee Cohen ‘96, our Principal. With over 25 years at TanenbaumCHAT, including a decade in her current role, Mrs. Cohen is integral to all facets of the school’s operations. Her deep experience, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to our students, faculty and the mission of the school provide important continuity during this transition period.

We thank Dr. Levy for all he has contributed to our community and we will be sure to celebrate his many accomplishments over the months ahead. The Board wishes the Levy family only the very best as they embark on this next chapter.

As always, we remain profoundly proud of our exceptional faculty, administration, and students. With Mrs. Cohen's continued leadership and the collective strength of our community, the future of TanenbaumCHAT is bright. We look forward to keeping you updated as our plans progress.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors
TanenbaumCHAT

Dear TanenbaumCHAT Community,

I am writing to share that at the end of this school year, I will be stepping down from my role as Head of School.

Over the past nine years, I have been incredibly proud to serve in this role and to witness the many accomplishments we’ve achieved together—including increased enrollment, the opening of our new wing, expanded student electives and programming, and meaningful affordability initiatives. At the same time, we have successfully navigated significant challenges, including campus amalgamation, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the events of October 7, 2023, along with the subsequent rise in antisemitism. Today, the school stands strong—well-positioned to remain both a centre of academic excellence and a vibrant hub of Jewish life.

I have had the privilege of working alongside an extraordinary range of Board Presidents and lay leaders, and I am deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me to lead this remarkable institution. Thank you for your time, support, and thought partnership over the past decade. I also owe a profound debt of gratitude to the administrative team and professional staff for their unwavering dedication and commitment. Most importantly, TanenbaumCHAT’s exceptional student body has made it a joy to come to work each day.

Leaving a place to which I feel so deeply connected is not easy. However, I look forward to embracing new challenges and opportunities. I remain committed to ensuring a smooth and successful year ahead and will support the Board in its search for the next Head of School. While new adventures await, I will truly miss the many relationships I’ve built over the years. TanenbaumCHAT will always hold a special place in my heart.

May TanenbaumCHAT continue to go from strength to strength.

Warmly,
