TanenbaumCHAT is currently seeking Co-Head of the Centre for Differentiated Learning

Reporting to the Campus Principal or Vice Principal, the Co-Head of the Centre for Differentiated Learning is responsible for ensuring the school delivers educational services that best serve
students with exceptionalities ranging from learning disabilities to gifted and including students with medical, physical accommodations, modifications and English Language Learners (ELL).
He/she works closely with CDL staff faculty, campus principal and vice principal(s), Director of Student Services, dean, co-head of CDL, guidance counsellors, special ed. and remediation
teachers, teaching aids, AP teachers and academic support staff at TanenbaumCHAT.
Duties: Management and oversight of the CDL, including but not limited to:
- Establish and communicate a vision and strategy to best serve students with diverse needs
- Establish and implement procedures for the evaluation, placement and reassessment of students with special needs
- Review, analyze and implement recommendations of psychoeducational reports and assessments
- Oversee the school’s Individualized Learning Program, which involves maintaining and updating individual educational plans
- Liaison with staff, parents, students, administration
- Serve as part of the interview team for incoming students
- Coordinate accommodations for testing, OSSLT and final school exams
- Provide counseling to students and parents for university entrance requirements with regard to academic accommodations
- preparing disclosure letters for gr. 12s applying to universities, coordinating and processing teacher placement recommendations (part of review meeting process), participating in annual
review meetings for all students in the CDL
- communicate with professionals in the community (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers) re: student needs
- Scheduling, organizing and supervising accommodated testing in the CDL organizing and maintaining student records (physical and electronic)
- summarizing psychoeducational assessments (for incoming students as well as new or updated ones for current students
- Provide leadership, coordination and resources to CDL staff and Learning Strategies faculty
- Promote collegiality, a culture of learning and foster collaborative practice within the department.
- Act as the driver of departmental professional learning towards a culture of excellence, innovation, andcreativity.
- Act as the lead change agent on initiatives to improve curricular delivery and instruction to students withIEPs
- Help shape the vision of the department, as part of the larger school vision, in collaboration withadministration
- Lead departmental meetings and outline a yearly learning plan that addresses student learning needs
- Mentor and coach teachers
- Represent department at school events as needed
- Serve as CDL ambassador throughout the school community
- Attend department head meetings
- Act as departmental liaison to administration, consulting on various matters including departmental staffing
- Prepare department budget
- Ensure that departmental content is up to date on Edsby
- Ensure that technology and technology training remain a priority for the department
- Communicate and collaborate on a regular basis with co-head where applicable
Curricular Leader and Expert
- Before school year begins, meet with new department members, explain department expectations and review course outlines, and ensure all teachers are up-to-date
- Approve FSTs and exams as relevant
- Standardize approach to curriculum delivery and assessment within sections of a course
- Ensure adherence to ministry guidelines and curricular updates
- Arrange department PD as needed and collaborate with administration on professional learning
- Ensure course outlines, including assessment quantity and weighting and KTCA balance are appropriate
- Advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) in Special Education or Learning Disabilities
- Minimum of 10 years of direct experience serving the differentiated learning needs of students and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership capacity
- Must have a track record that demonstrates exceptional analytical skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to think critically about issues and solutions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships quickly are essential.
